Pie page overview

The page shows:

  • Total slices — live shares of issued equity across all members
  • Member count — how many people hold equity
  • Every slice traces back to the work that earned it — expand a row to see the exact drops, tasks, and opening balances

Setting up the starting split

Before the pie is launched, you'll see a callout to Set up the starting split.

This is where you record what was already put in before the pie existed — work done, money put at risk, an idea made real. Your share of the winnings should reflect your share of the bets.

Key points:

  • Enter people as they accept invites, in any order
  • Percentages are figured against the whole starting split, so nothing goes stale while you add people
  • If you're already running a pie elsewhere (Slicing Pie's Pie Slicer, a spreadsheet), link it on org settings and enter its values here

Invite people and set starting shares → — go to the members page to add people.

Launching the pie

Click Launch the pie to start earning on top of this split. Nothing is final until the team locks it in by majority decision — the starting numbers stay adjustable.

After launch

Once launched, a banner confirms:

Launched. Earning starts on top of this split — the starting numbers stay adjustable until the team locks them in by majority decision.

The starting split section updates to show:

  • Earning is live on top of the starting split, which can still be adjusted
  • Nothing is final until lock-in by majority decision: a vote weighted by each member's stake — what they've earned plus their starting balance
  • Money doesn't vote; it gets preferred shares in the SAFE

Click Start the lock-in vote to begin the team vote to finalize the split.

No issued equity yet

If no drops have been approved yet, you'll see:

No issued equity yet — approve a drop run and the pie appears here.

Sections

  • Issued — the work in your share — the approved work that makes up your equity
  • Pending — in still-open runs — work waiting to be approved in open drop runs

How equity flows

  1. Work is logged on tasks in Marten
  2. Work is peer-reviewed and approved
  3. Approved work becomes a "drop" — a provisional allocation of slices
  4. Drop runs are approved on the Drops page
  5. Approved drops become issued equity in the pie
  6. The team can vote to lock in the starting split at any time
